OUR ACCREDITATIONS
For good reason, fire alarm systems are required in all multi-tenanted establishments (residential or commercial). They are your home’s or property’s first line of defence when it comes to fire protection.
THERE ARE MANY BENEFITS TO EARLY FIRE DETECTION IN YOUR PROPERTY, SUCH AS:
- Fire on a small scale (starting stages) can be effectively managed in most situations via the use of a fire extinguisher.
- Saving your valuables from damage
- Time to escape or evacuate effectively and safely.
- Time to call the emergency services (in most cases, fire alarm systems can be linked directly to the fire brigade to ensure the fastest possible response).
Fire extinguishers are an essential piece of fire safety equipment along with other types of fire alarm systems.
There are many options to choose from to effectively combat the various risks a site can present (fire risk assessment is recommended). Some of the benefits of fire extinguishers and fire include:
- Minimising damage to your property
- It helps to create an effective escape route if necessary.
- Buying time prior to fire brigade rescue if necessary.
Emergency Lighting:
Emergency lighting systems are another vital aspect of fire safety design. In many incidents, when a fire takes place, building electricity supplies turn off. Because of these situations, emergency lighting systems guide the way to safety and provide the necessary illumination to assess your surroundings and make a logical decision.
Building Design—Fire Strategy:
If your property is being built, refurbished, or redesigned, fire safety is an important consideration to make. Through building control and your local fire brigade, we will ensure you have the “bare minimum” in place. It is down to you, as the responsible person/organisation, to ensure parameters such as staff/resident inductions and training are conducted in line with the site fire safety plan, which should be in place. A fire risk assessment is highly advised.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Not unless they’re BAFE qualified, as there are strict regulations to follow, and liability due to inadequate levels of fire protection is always the property owner/ management team’s concern. Especially since Grenfell. If occupants are injured or worse, due to inadequate fire protection, prosecution and imprisonment is a highly probable outcome.
This extends beyond the design/ installation of detection points, to encompass:
- Cabling Type (Correct amount of fire protection, in accordance to property type),
- Cabling Methods (i.e. fire retardant fixings at specified distances, within specific areas to prevent escaping occupants from being caught up in cabling which has had its fixings melt away, as a result of not being fire-rated – causing liability concerns, once investigated by the authorities if injury or worse was a result of this oversight)
- Sound Awareness created by system (specified decibels, in each corner of each room to ensure all occupants are made aware of a fire)
- Cause & Effect (i.e. what needs to be triggered when fire alarm is triggered, this can encompass: Fire Brigade Response – which only approved/ regulated organisations can offer, Lifts being disabled, Access Control doors to release upon fire alarm activation, Gas shut off valve to be activated and more…)
- Correct/ Approved Commissioning & Documentation Procedures
- A Fire Risk Assessment (especially for commercial sites & HMO’s)
- Your local fire brigade (Carry out an assessment)
- Telcam’s internal, qualified design team (fastest process, with free design & details within 24 hours – suitable for most sites; commercial & residential – contact us for more information)
Faults are usually caused by faulty detection points, water leaks from the floor above, a broken cable or connection, or a faulty control panel. Telcam’s fault diagnostics are not charged by an hourly rate, allowing you to focus resources elsewhere and be sure to receive a guaranteed result for the price of a single visit, as soon as possible, as it’s to our benefit!
YES. Like all life safety systems, the fire alarm holds a very important role in awareness & successful evacuation. The system actually, needs to be maintained on a 6 monthly basis in accordance to BS5839, in which our engineers must test the following:
- Check if the fire alarm detection points (i.e. smoke detectors/ heat detectors) & callpoints are all signalling to the fire alarm, when triggered (using approved test equipment & procedures only)
- Check if the fire alarm, then signals the activation to the rest of the premises (via sounder circuits) & relevant protocols are triggered (i.e. fire brigade response, lifts are grounded for safety, gas valves are shut off, access controlled doors are released, AOV is signalled to open & ventilate the smoke created from a fire)
- Check if the backup batteries are capable of supporting the system for the required amount of time, in accordance to BS5839 (via specialised test equipment & calculations)
- Address any system faults, to ensure there aren’t any sensors which may not be working, or may be installed in the wrong positions (you’ll be made aware of these issue via our site report & a phone call immediately)
After the above has been completed to BS5839 standards. We will issue you a maintenance certificate, clearing you of any liability concerns in relation to the operation of the fire alarm until the next service is due.
Our prices for maintenance visits are amongst the most cost-effective in the industry. Contact us for information on our fixed rate.
